What is the Fretboard Summit?
The Summit is a weekend-long event where the pages of the Fretboard Journal come to life. You’ll hear some great music, catch interviews and stories from some of your favorite players and builders and learn a ton about guitar collecting.

Who should attend?
If you love vintage or handbuilt instruments and great music (or you’ve just enjoyed the last eleven years of the FJ magazine), you’ll enjoy the Summit. We’re featuring some of our favorite artists – from the worlds of bluegrass, folk, jazz and rock – as well as some of our favorite large and small-scale builders. You’ll learn a ton but mostly you’ll have a great time.

Are there additional costs?
Just lodging and food. Your admission covers everything else: The live music, the hours of workshops and master classes and the panels and talks. We encourage you to stay on-site if you can as that's where all the action is.

I’m bringing my spouse/friend along, but they don’t want to participate in the event. Do they need tickets?
All official Fretboard Summit events will require a wristband for entry. We realize that not every partner/spouse has an interest in guitar-related talks so we will have a spouse rate ticket available. This would allow your children or significant other to attend each evening's live music concert alongside you at a discounted rate. Must be purchased in conjunction with a full-access Summit pass.

Where is it?
The Fretboard Summit will be held at Rancho Bernardo Inn in San Diego.

Who thought of this?
This is the brainchild of the Fretboard Journal magazine. We curate this three-day event where we ask some of our favorite subjects to perform, talk and interview each other. As with the magazine, we strive for a lively (and hype-free) mix of artists, luthiers and collectors. To help things run smoothly, we've partnered with Artist Home, a Seattle-based festival company that specializes in intimate music festivals such as the annual Timber! Outdoor Music Festival.

Will there be guitars for sale onsite?
Yes, there will be select vintage instruments on-sale in the Vintage Vault and you're welcome to negotiate a build with any of the luthiers present. But the focus of this event is on learning, having fun and hearing some great music. By design, this isn't a traditional guitar show with luthier tables. This is a more like the TED talks of guitars.

How do I book a room at Rancho Bernardo?
We're excited to offer a discounted rate to Fretboard Summit attendees. Click here to save $20 on their standard nightly rate during The Fretboard Summit.

What's the schedule of events?
The Summit will begin the afternoon of Friday October 14. Official programming will conclude at noon on October 16. Guests are welcome to book longer stays with Rancho Bernardo at the discounted rate via our exclusive discount link.

When will we know the full schedule of events?
The growing schedule of events will be released soon. We're still gathering and refining many of the talks, lectures and panels.

Food. What about food?
Rancho Bernardo has a variety of dining options, from the high-end AVANT restaurant to more casual cafes. Beyond that, San Diego has no shortage of great restaurants, from amazing and cheap burritos to world-class dining.

Should I bring my guitar?
Of course! Bring a gem from your collection to show off, a guitar you're hoping to horse trade or just your favorite workhorse for the jams. Rancho Bernardo accommodations lock-up tight and secure. We’ll also have a staffed and secure instrument check as needed. We're recommending that players bring acoustic instruments for portability and ease.

We’ll have ample opportunities for informal jam sessions and fun throughout the resort all weekend long. Don’t be empty handed!

What happens if it rains?
The Summit will take place rain or shine. Don’t worry, we’ll have you covered (literally and figuratively) in case of inclement weather.

Will you offer refunds?
Yes, full refunds will be given up to 60 days from the event.
