The Fretboard Summit features three days of lectures, oral histories, interviews and music performances curated specifically for rabid guitar enthusiasts, their friends and families.
In addition to the above, our first year had the following activities spread throughout the Costanoa Resort during the entire weekend:
Martin Guitar Demos - Forget to bring a guitar for the weekend? Our friends from Nazareth have you covered. Try out some of the latest guitars from our friends at Martin Guitars.
Jam Circles – Whether your tastes lean towards, jazz, rock, folk or bluegrass, we have numerous designated jam and breakout areas spread throughout the property.
Complimentary Guitar Setups – The crew from Santa Cruz Guitar Co. will be on-hand offering free acoustic guitar setups to all attendees. Have a question about your guitar’s setup? Need some advice on your next repair? Experts will be on-hand to help. One lucky Summit attendee will also win a custom Santa Cruz guitar!
Music Instruction - Hours of drop-in master classes courtesy of Peghead Nation available at no extra cost. Courses include The Art of the Flatpick, and Fingerboard Explorations with Scott Nygaard; Fingerstyle Guitar Duets with Mark Goldenberg and Eric Skye; Guitar Harmony with Mark Goldenberg; Travis-Style Fingerpicking with Stevie Coyle and more.
Drop-In Recording Studio - Our friends at CreativeLive are installing a free, drop-in recording studio at Costanoa where you can have hands-on experience with some of the latest audio engineering gear available today. Record a quick tune with your guitar and walk out with a USB drive featuring you at your finest. (Space is limited.)
PRS Guitars Pop-Up Museum - Celebrating their 30 year history, Paul Reed Smith Guitars will be onsite with the PRS Pop-Up Museum filled with some of PRS's most iconic instruments. Senior Luthier Michael Byle and Private Stock Sales Manager Jon Croft, will be on hand to chat about the company’s history of innovation and quality. Paul will be presenting on the main stage during the afternoon of Saturday, November 7.
Guitar Corral - Need to check-in your treasured instrument while you enjoy the festivities or explore the area? An on-site, climate-controlled and fully staffed secure guitar check-in is available.
Sunday Morning Guitar Swap - Before the festival's end on Sunday afternoon (capped with a stellar duo performance by Julian Lage & Chris Eldridge), we'll host a guitar swap just for Summit attendees. Bring a guitar to sell or trade or just check out the goods. Area retailers will also be showcasing some of the gems from their inventories.
Breakout Panels and More - With dozens of world-class players and luthiers converging upon Costanoa for this weekend, it's the perfect place to propose your very own breakout session around a particular topic. We'll set aside areas for highly-focused subjects and panels that you can steer.
Great Food and Booze - Costanoa is situated next to some of the most fertile and beautiful soil in America. On-site food and beverages will focus on fresh local cuisine and drinks from nearby breweries and wineries. We also encourage attendees to make a pilgrimage down to town to try some of the area's legendary meals, including fish stew at Duarte's Tavern and artichoke bread from Pescadero's Arcangeli Grocery Co.
Santa Cruz Guitar Co. Tours - Santa Cruz Guitar Co. offers regularly scheduled tours of their workshop on Thursdays at 2:30 p.m. and Fridays at 10:00 a.m. You will need to contact SCGC directly to reserve your space. (The SCGC shop is about a 35 minute drive south of Costanoa.)
